Following his principles will break two hearts.
Forester Veld loses a piece of himself to mute baker Oren when they first meet, but Oren is vowed to Haram. When Haram is killed, Veld denies his heart to respect the mourning period. It’s the right thing to do.
During Haram’s funeral, Oren proudly bares the brands that show the nature of their love; Haram owned him, heart and body. The elves pity Oren and think he’s broken.
Veld has no intention of dishonouring Haram’s memory, but his death may not have been an accident. Only a forester can learn what the trees have seen. However, Oren’s independence is threatened, and if Veld does not offer what Oren needs, Oren may never be his to claim.

I fell completely in love with this little story. The world building was superb, the storytelling, amazing. This is the kind of story you sink into and don't come out of until it's over. And when that happens, you're sad that it's over, just because it's over. All of the stories Blaine has written in this fantasy world make me laugh and cry, and love right along with each of the characters.Yes, there are BDSM elements in this one, but they're very light. It's such a beautiful love to read about.
I highly recommend this story as well as The Forester books also set in this world.
Blaine has done an amazing job and I can't wait to read more.

Oren Right Tales of the Forest Book 4 edition by Blaine D Arden Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This story was quite nice and interesting. I loved the plot and the way this world was woven. I loved the storyline and the tree-elves, cloud-elves, and dark-elves. Yes, I have a thing for elves and the many worlds one can set them, this world being quite refreshing.
The story begins with a melancholic strike as Harem, Oren’s vowed, has died living Oren in a deep mourning. While death is a terrible thing for any character, Oren has it a bit more difficult due to his nature, what with him being a submissive and in need of an owner. Veld on the other hand has been in love with Oren ever since he first met him, but his friends possessiveness and unwillingness to share had cut off all hope, until his death that is. So Veld is facing with a turmoil of feeling; his love for Oren, his need to take care of him, his guilt for wanting such thing when Oren still in mourning. When the society though makes it clear, they would not leave Oren alone, thinking him to be unable to care for himself and not understanding his nature and his relationship with Haram, Veld is forced to take action.
So the romance part is quite deep for such a short story, the characters have to fight over their feelings and their society and make a stand for themselves. The D/s element here is not one you can see or read, it’s a known state but not a developed one, so if you expect any BDSM-y scenes, don’t, you won’t find them.
As for the suspense plot, that was very interesting as well. We have a murderer on the loose. The elves magic while strong enough can’t easily find the person killing people, or the reason behind it. Veld holds the spotlight by helping the Truth Seeker find the culprit and when we learn who it is it comes as a sad and sorrowful surprise.
The ending itself had me gasping with shock. No, nothing shocking happened, I was simply expecting more. I had been pinning all read for the moment when Oren and Veld would come together, and yes I admit it I was literally drooling for their sex scene (they had a strong chemistry for crying out loud), and when it never came I felt disappointed. Still do. It’s like the author teased me with a nice dinner cooking. Smelling all the scents coming from the kitchen and drooling over my imagination of how they’ll feel when I would finally taste them, yet at last second having everything canceled. I feel deprived, robbed out of something I think I earned. My head is still screaming at this author “give me my sex scene damn it.” Sigh!
Ah well, be prepared for a tease that as well written and enticing as it was, it remains a tease. Still recommended.

Oh…. This one made me cry right at the beginning. It starts with the beautiful but tragic scene, Oren mourning his vowed Haram, at his funeral pyre.
Oren is a baker, living in the village with his vowed Haram. They are in the elven (elvish?) equivalent to a D/s relationship, adding in some scarification practices. Haram is Oren’s rock, when he is accidentally shot by a young hunter, Oren is lost and alone.
Veld has been a wandering Forester, coming to the village to find it without a Forester, and the villagers living in tents. He settled in, deciding this was his home. He has been watching Oren from the sidelines, being friends with Haram, and knowing he be can never have the man he loves. Haram doesn’t share.
The death of Haram changes everything. I’ll stop there with the spoilers! So this is a short but lovely story, Oren is very sweet and needy, Veld strong and lonely. We learn a lot about the elves in this story, in some ways more than the other stories. There is a wonderful scene with Veld manipulating a tree to turn it in to a house! Plus a scene where he shares strength with a healer. Then there is the subtle D/s aspect. I’m a big fan of BDSM in all forms, but the service side of a D/s relationship really fascinates me. This is a very different way to see it, you know what they are doing, but there is none of the trappings of a contemporary BDSM lifestyle. No leather, leashes, whippings, toys, etc. Yet there is the expected discent. The old bats in the village don’t get it, don’t approve, and want to “save” Oren. Some understand, the Guide is there to support Veld and Oren, plus Oren’s sister. But it’s a small village and will take time for things to settle down.
I liked this book, but it was short, I wish it had been as long as the second book. I know it was meant to be a short story, but I loved the story and characters a lot, and wanted more!

Oren’s Right is part of the ‘Tales of the Forest’ series and, if I read the author’s website right, the third book in the sequence. I can’t say it mattered. This fantasy world captured me from the moment I started reading and at no point did I feel lost or wondering if I’d missed something – Oren’s Right works very well as a stand-alone story.
And what a story it is. We’re given fantasy, a mystery, tension, pain, loss and love. There are subtle messages in this story about dealing with people who have different customs from our own or take their pleasure in ways we don’t understand and can’t imagine. I loved that those weren’t preached and spoke all the more loudly for it.
I adore Veld and his patience despite a desire he’d been hiding and suppressing for years. Oren – the gentle giant with a deep need to serve - was an adorable character and like Veld all I wanted was for Oren to be safe and taken care off.
Despite this being a short story it is a fully fledged tale without open endings or unanswered questions. The fact that the book ended with a few bonus scenes was a very nice and welcome surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy and highly recommend this award winning book.
